Dog Training Technique

You probably hear trainers say that use Positive Reinforcement dog training technique all the time. But what does it actually mean?

When I talk to clients and friends, I explain that I follow the Positive Reinforcement, force free dog training technique. It’s pretty easy to say right? However, what does Positive Reinforcement dog training technique mean? I figured I would write about the main types of dog training methodologies to explain it better and what it means since different dog trainers follow different methods. Positive Reinforcement aligns with who I am as a human being and what I believe. I hope that you as dog parent find this helpful when you are looking for a dog trainer to help you on your dog training journey.

Sometimes people need a visual to understand what Positive reinforcement actually means. So I decided to put the information in a chart to help better explain the training method.
Positive = add something (either pain or reward depending the training method)
Negative = take something away (either discomfort or reward depending on the behavior)
Reinforcement = to increase behavior
Punishment = to decrease behavior

I hope that you find this information helpful. If you would like more information on on my training services or anything else please feel free to contact me for questions. You can also find more on my FAQ’s page how to find the trainer that best aligns with what you and your family are looking for.
