How I used CBD Oil to help my dogs

This is a personal story about how I used CBD oil to help my dogs. While CBD oil is used by both humans and animals, I only have experience with using CBD oil to help my dogs. I believe in holistic medicine and therapy and have extensively tried CBD oil for her dogs.

Why do people look at CBD oil for their pets?

CBD oil has been found to have numerous benefits for pets. It can help with anxiety, seizures, pain, inflammation, and many other conditions. Many pet owners have reported positive results after using CBD oil to help their dogs and other pets. However, it’s important to note that not all pets will react the same way to CBD oil.

The first time I started looking into CBD oil was over 5 years ago for my dog Jackson who has seizures. Jackson was prescribed phenobarbital and it had been fine with the “management” of the seizures. However, I know the side effects of the drug and I am not a fan of the drug, so I wanted to see if it was a possibility of having Jackson off of the drug and on CBD oil. My vet was not a fan of the idea and I had to do a lot of research and try to track down those that did use it for dog seizures and how I could make it work. Long story short, I did follow a transition that my vet told me of weening Jackson off of the phenobarbital and steadily keeping him on CBD oil that would work in place of it. At the end of the day, taking Jackson off of CBD oil wasn’t going to work. I had chalked it up to that CBD oil doesn’t work for all dogs but it was worth trying. 

A couple of months later, I brought Mojo into our life. Mojo does have anxiety and lots of insecurity. Through training, routine, setting a safe place for her, and lots of love she has gotten so much better from where she was. However, she still hates car rides. She pants the whole ride and when we arrive she will be wound up and ready to go. 

When she joined our family, I knew CBD oil should be something that is part of her regime. Over time I tried CBD treats, different mg of CBD oil, and different brands. I will get into why it’s important about the brands. Nothing was working, so I gave up and resigned myself that I was going to have to sedate her for car rides. This was my last resort for Mojo but nothing was helping her. 

So here we are. I had given up on CBD oil because I didn’t see an improvement in my dogs for what I was looking for. Now does that mean CBD oil didn’t help them? No, because I knew CBD oil had many different benefits for different ailments. I had spoken to people who told me how it helped them and their dogs. However, I also know that we are all different and not every being is going to react the same to all therapies, whether it is holistic or medicinal. So I moved on. 

Fast forward to September 2023, I was on a Zoom call with all different types of pet professionals and there was a woman who owned a CBD oil company – Furry Faces CBD.
